Hurricane Idalia

Hurricane Idalia, located in the Gulf of Mexico and the second major hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season, has continued to intensify overnight with maximum sustained winds of 125mph with higher gusts. Idalia is predicted to continue to intensify into a Category 4 hurricane today with maximum sustained winds of 130mph+. The hurricane is forecast to bring destructive winds and catastrophic storm surge to the Florida Gulf Coast ‘Big Bend’ region as the system moves inland. Idalia is then expected to track north-eastward inland along the Southeast US coast before entering the Atlantic on Thursday off the coast of the Carolinas.

With mandatory evacuation orders issued in at least 28 of Florida’s 67 counties and Public Authorities warning of serious wind and storm surge damage throughout the area, our thoughts are with those impacted who will be impacted by this event.

DEKRA has already implemented its Catastrophe Plan with the deployment of resources. Further updates will be issued as developments permit and additional reports received.
